Common questions
How do I create my first budget?
Add an account and its opening balance, then choose one currency for the budget. Create categories and assign the money you already have. When you spend, record the account and category used.
Can PocketPortion connect to my bank?
No. Enter income and spending yourself or import a supported CSV or TSV file. PocketPortion never asks for bank credentials.
Why can a CSV import change my expected balance?
Your opening balance should be the balance immediately before the first imported transaction. Check the date and number format in the preview. Invalid rows are not imported. Import each source account separately, and record transfers between your own accounts manually.
How do I move my budget to another iPhone?
On the old iPhone, open Settings in PocketPortion and choose Back Up Budget. Save the JSON file somewhere you control. On the new iPhone, choose Restore from Backup. Restoring replaces the budget currently on that device.
Why is Ready to Assign lower than my account balance?
Some money may already be assigned to categories or future months. Ready to Assign shows only what is still free to plan. Cover category shortfalls by moving money from another category or from unassigned funds.
Can I change the budget currency?
You can choose it before adding budget data. PocketPortion does not convert existing records between currencies; each budget uses one currency.
What should I do if my budget will not open?
Do not delete the app. Use the recovery screen to try again, recover the previous local record or restore a JSON backup. If it still fails, email the error text and app version to support.
